Travel Korea: Namwon 남원

Namwon is known as the "the City of Love" because of the famous love story of Chunhyang, which is known all over Korea. We went to the place called Holyland of Korean Traditional Music. Obviously its purpose is to promote Korean traditional music. We hand a pansori workshop in that place. Pansori is a genre of Korean traditional music, which is a vocal and percussional music performed by one sorikkun, the singer and one gosu, the drummer playing a barrel drum called buk.
The place was very peaceful as expected. We were given a chance to roam around the area so I was able to climb the top of the hill and saw the wonderful architecture and landscape of the area. The workshop was also fun. I always thought pansori was boring but I was wrong it was very interesting and the one wo conducted the worskshop was very good.
There are many old tradional homes with narrow streets and winding alleys to explore. We had our dinner at the Namwon Tourist Complex where you could see the Ch'unhyang Cultural Arts Center and the National Folk Music Institute. There was also the Namwon Land, which is an amusement park. Although I don't understand the concept of the complex because the amusement park is quite far from the other features of the area. lol
