Buyeo 부여

Buyeo 부여 is a very peaceful county of the South Chungcheong Province in Korea. Despite it's very active history, not so many people are aware of the place. I asked my Korean friends about Buyeo and they just tell me "ahh the traditional place.. or ahh the historical place." As I metioned in the last entry, Buyeo was the capital of Baekje Kingdom, AD 538 to 660, when it was called Sabi. Probably, the only time when Buyeo 부여 expects "a lot" of visitors is during the Baekje Cultural Festival. This is the county's most famous festival that attracts some local and foreign tourists. We went to Buyeo National Museum which is the central and leading institution in the study, research and preservation of the Baekje Culture. It holds 1,000 artifacts and a collection of 15,000 archaeological and artistic relics from Chungcheongnamdo. A very interesting collection is the Gilt-bronze Incense Burner of Baekje, which is the 287th National Treasure of Korea. This is considered as the symbol of the artistry of the Baekje people and a masterpiece of Korean art.
The Gungnamji is the pond artificially made in the 35th year of King Mu (643 AD) of the Baekje Kingdom. It has an islang with a pavilion known as Poryongjeong.
